ARE YOU CUTTING INTO YOUR BEAUTY BUDGET?

Some of you know that I listen to NPR like, all day long. I used to obsessively buy music on iTunes, but hey, times are tough, so I've traded in fashionable music for the good old-fashioned, sweet, sweet melodies of public radio day in, day out. Every now and then, in between the symphonies and This American Life episodes, I catch a broadcast that has to do with beauty (rare on the NPR, believe it or not). This particular episode, "Do Hairy Women Signal A Rough Economy?" had to do with the fact that American women are 86-ing ancillary treatments like waxing, facials, etc. In fact, the NCA (National Cosmetology Association) says 70 percent of women are spending less, to the tune of every eight weeks of maintenance as opposed to every four, or not at all. It would truly seem that "the American dream of looking fabulous is in a budget crisis."
